ANPU, also called Anubis, ancient Egyptian god of the dead, represented by a jackal or the figure of a man with the head of a jackal. In the Early Dynastic period and the Old Kingdom, he enjoyed a preeminent (though not exclusive) position as lord of the dead, but he was later overshadowed by Osiris.
ANPU presumably possesses the conventional attributes of the Egyptian Gods including superhuman strength (Class 25 or more), stamina, vitality, and resistance to harm. After this, ANPU invented mummification as a means of preserving his father's body for restoration back to life.
ANPU was the god of embalming and the dead. Since jackals were often seen in cemeteries, the ancient Egyptians believed that ANPU watched over the dead. Thus, ANPU was the god who watched over the process of mummifying people when they died. Priests often wore a mask of ANPU during mummification ceremonies.
